In Spanish tax and admin systems, a modelo is the word for form. Different modelos are used for different purposes – declaring tax, registering as self-employed, changing your details, applying for a refund, and so on.
Each one has a number, and knowing which modelo you need is half the battle. For example:
Modelo 303: Quarterly VAT return (IVA)
Modelo 130: – Quarterly personal income tax (IRPF) payment for autónomos
Modelo 036: Used to register as an autónomo or update your tax details
Modelo 100: The big annual income tax return (declaración de la renta)
Modelo 390: Annual summary of IVA activity
Modelo 349: EU intra-community transactions
You can see the full list of models and their uses on the Agencia Tributaria website but be warned, it’s not the most beginner-friendly page.
If you’re self-employed, you’ll mainly deal with a handful of these repeatedly, depending on your setup.
